Store Concept

Within walking distance of the terminals of one of Europe’s most frequented airports, a new complex of buildings which has been designed to blend business and lifestyle is currently built. Our partner will operate a prestigious retail space but the rules change: A regular duty free concept will not cut it outside of the airport – people will have to visit this place by choice, not by chance. To create gravity, we build a destination that dissolves the boundaries between living and shopping.

Urban Brand Space

„Create a car-free networking and coworking hub to support local makers and their projects.“ 

 

Many car brands try to reach urban target groups by planting micro-versions of their dealerships into the high street. But an inner-city car dealership can not just be about cars. Being a relevant part of the daily lives of a target group is not fighting over sales and market shares, it’s fighting for their share-of-time. For the Creative Class the boundaries between leisure and work have become so blurry that the two have effectively blended into one another.

„Become the nucleus for a local lifestyle and leisure network.“

 

Our partner is among the world’s strongest brands and they offer one of the most desirable products. Still the current car dealership will not generate sufficient traffic anymore. Taking a drive to the outskirts and business districts just to visit a huge product showroom does neither fit into the zeitgeist nor into the busy schedule of a progressive target group. To remain relevant, we developed a strategic framework and extensive toolbox to transform the dealership to a point of experience and core of a local scene.

In a geographical market that is characterized by sheer (retail) abundance, time is the only scarce factor. To be a relevant part of the hearts and minds (and wallets) of the customers, even places need to define their unique identity. We are currently working on a multi-use concept for a real estate project that has a distinct story to tell and the potential to become a landmark of the specific area.

„Develop a scientific model to measure experience.“ 

 

We believe that the point of sale has to transform to a point of experience in order to remain relevant to a modern consumer. But the current metrics will not be able to measure or explain success anymore or worse, trigger the wrong strategic decisions. „Any attempts to be creative, innovative, daring or disruptive in retail ultimately get measured using the most conventional and passionless yardstick of the all – sales per square foot. (…) These are the numbers that make smart people do dumb things.“ (Doug Stephens) Therefore we developed a new and comprehensive metric to measure the performance of a physical space in terms of experience.

The concept of a trade fair hasn’t changed much in the last decades. But with ubiquitous information available online, the future customer will not visit a trade fair like the Frankfurt International Motor Show just to see products anymore. To increase relevance, Mercedes-Benz teamed with the world-renowned conference SXSW and created a diverse and interactive conference program – right in the middle of one of the world’s largest car shows.
